I’m so happy to share that the title for this year’s National Flash Fiction Day anthology MUDLARKING was inspired by my story ‘Mudlarking Under Richmond Bridge During the Annual Draw Off’. Having the title story for this prestigious anthology has been on my writing bucket list for many, many years now and I couldn’t be happier. I gave myself permission at the beginning of this year to put aside the novel and concentrate on my first love: flash fiction. I’m back in my happy place and the fact the new work is being so well received feels fantastic. When I do return to longer form fiction, I’m going to take that joy with me and make sure to write in a way that feels authentic to me, because that’s the only way to produce good work.
As an added bonus, Joanna Campbell has produced the most stunning artwork for the cover, inspired by my story. It’s hard to describe how magical it feels to have your words inspire art in another form. I’m so grateful to her for her sensitivity, and talent.
